On November 12th, and as part of the San Alberto 2020 Cultural Week, organized -this year virtually- by the Higher Polytechnic School of the University of Zaragoza (Huesca campus), our Agency's director, Antonio Serrano, presented the pilot evaluation for the certification of the degree of commitment of the university to the Sustainable Development Goals (ACPUA's ALCAEUS Program). In the subsequent debate, moderated by the Director of the Higher Polytechnic School, F. Javier García Ramos, participated deans, school directors, teachers, quality managers and students from various centers of the University of Zaragoza.
The ALCAEUS Program provides an evaluation framework, unprecedented in Spain, to assess the degree of commitment of the university and other research centers with the SDGs. Given the novelty of this program, the ACPUA has considered it particularly appropriate to carry out a pilot evaluation during the 2020-2021 academic year to apply the protocol and then proceed to a meta-evaluation to identify points for improvement. From here, the program would be opened to universities and Spanish or foreign centers (academic year 2021-22).
To achieve these objectives, it has been considered appropriate that this pilot evaluation, to be carried out in a single campaign within this course, should fall on the centers of the Aragon University System that have been operating far longer with institutional accreditation. Two centers of the University of Zaragoza have voluntarily applied for the corresponding call: The Higher Polytechnic School and the Engineering and Architecture.
