CoARA National Chapter Spain launch event

09/02/2024

ACPUA attended the first meeting of the National Chapter Spain of CoARA - Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment - which took place last Friday 9 February at the headquarters of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities in Madrid.

The Spanish National Chapter, one of the 12 current national chapters, is jointly led by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). It brings together universities, research centres, quality assurance agencies and scientific societies in an effort to advance research evaluation at national level in line with CoARA.

Its mission is to support the reform of research evaluation in Spain, recognising the diverse practices and activities that maximise the quality and impact of research.

Through various presentations, the European and national context was introduced together with the goals and lines of work of the National Chapter Spain. There were three main lines of work on which various organisations, universities and research institutes presented their different institutional experiences:

. Evaluation criteria and methodologies

. Awareness raising and training

. Interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinarity

Different institutions presented the progress made in their action plans aimed at promoting the review and development of research evaluation criteria, tools and processes in Spain, in line with the principles and criteria of the Agreement on Research Evaluation Reform.

The conference was an opportunity to share ideas and experiences and to reflect on the research evaluation system in Spain, towards a new paradigm based more on qualitative than quantitative methods, more comprehensive and inclusive.
