The Aragon Agency for Quality Assurance and Strategic Foresight in Higher Education (ACPUA) has taken part in the international session “Community of Support: Integrating Equity and Sustainability into Education and Society”, organised by the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI) of the United Nations together with several international organisations committed to the 2030 Agenda.
The event brought together more than 800 registered participants from over 100 countries, including representatives from ministries, higher education institutions, international organisations, quality assurance agencies and professional networks working in the fields of sustainability and education.
The session focused on sharing experiences and strategies for effectively embedding sustainability, equity and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within education systems, while promoting systemic change and collaboration among public authorities, educational institutions, businesses and civil society.
Speakers presented initiatives from different countries aimed at integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into curriculum reform, teacher training, institutional evaluation and educational governance. Participants also discussed some of the key challenges faced by organisations worldwide, including the need for stronger institutional leadership, strategic planning and the integration of sustainability into quality assurance systems.
In this context, ACPUA shared the experience of its ALCAEUS programme, which supports universities and higher education institutions in embedding the SDGs into their institutional strategies, quality assurance systems, teaching, research, governance and societal engagement.
Participation in this international community reinforces ACPUA’s commitment to promoting a culture of quality aligned with the principles of sustainability, inclusion and social responsibility that underpin both the 2030 Agenda and the European Higher Education Area.
