ACPUA participated in the webinar “The European degree label: state of play and ways forward”, organised by the European University Association (EUA), where speakers provided complementary perspectives from three different angles: quality assurance, higher education institutions, and European policy. The session, moderated by Maria Kelo (EUA), featured contributions from Solange Pisarz (CTI – Engineering Degree Commission, France), Andries Verspeeten (Ghent University, Belgium), and Yann‑Maël Bideau (European Commission). Discussions focused on the progress of the European Degree Label, its relationship with existing joint programmes, and the key principles that should underpin such degrees, including mobility, interdisciplinarity, inclusion, multilingualism, and sustainability.
The speakers highlighted that the Joint European Degree Label is conceived as a common quality label for joint programmes, ensuring compliance with shared European standards while increasing their visibility and international recognition . They also stressed the importance of continued cooperation among universities, quality assurance agencies, and national authorities in advancing its implementation. This gradual approach is expected to support the further development of the label and could ultimately pave the way for a fully integrated European degree in the coming years.
