ACPUA has once again been invited by UNESCO to the meeting organised by the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI), following the success of the presentation given by ACPUA (at the invitation of INQAAHE) in November 2024, to attend the international forum entitled ‘Reimagining Higher Education for Global Transformation towards a Sustainable Future’.
The aim of this United Nations initiative in 2025 was to create a community of best practice in sustainability within higher education, in collaboration with various international stakeholders, including educators, accreditation organisations, academic associations, etc.
At the recent meeting, various issues were discussed, such as the integration of sustainability into learning as part of institutions’ strategic plans, as well as within each discipline; the creation of infrastructure for the dissemination of knowledge; models of collaboration; and the future of the 2030 Agenda, amongst others.
Since 2015, ACPUA has been a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact and, in recent years, has developed a pioneering protocol for assessing higher education institutions in relation to their compliance with the SDGs; a project called ALCAEUS (currently integrated into the DEQAR database), which began in 2018 in collaboration with the Andorra Quality Assurance Agency as part of a project funded by INQAAHE.
