ACPUA has been a member of the International Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (INQAAHE) since 2016. Every year, this international organisation offers training programmes to enhance the professional development of staff at quality assurance agencies responsible for evaluation. On this occasion, ACPUA was able to attend the pre-recorded webinar entitled: “The Human Advantage: Quality Assurance in the Age of AI”.
Speakers from Taiwan and the United States, moderated by Dr Leah Matthews – a member of the INQAAHE Committee and Executive Director of the US Distance Education Accrediting Commission – presented various perspectives on the rapid transformation of learning driven by artificial intelligence, as well as the role of quality in this process.
The discussion raised a number of related questions regarding how institutions and quality assurance organisations can thoughtfully address artificial intelligence without losing sight of the essential human dimensions of education, including critical thinking, meaningful engagement, judgement, creativity and the development of students’ capabilities.
