ACPUA engages with the United Nations Higher Education Sustainability Initiative

14/10/2025

ACPUA has been invited again by UNESCO to the meeting organised by the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI), after the success of the lecture given by ACPUA (invited by INQAAHE) on 7 and 8 November 2024, with the international lecture "Future Proofing Accreditation, Standards and Education".

This initiative of the United Nations aims to create a community of good practices of sustainability in higher education, together with different international agents including educators, accreditation organisations, academic associations, etc.

The meeting raised various issues such as empowerment and support to provide opportunities for individual action or as part of coalitions, sharing resources and raising projects to the international level or alleviating barriers to project management such as lack of staff, economic funds, staff training or lack of organisational preparedness.

Since 2015, ACPUA has been part of the United Nations Global Compact and in recent years has developed a pioneering Protocol for the evaluation of university centres in relation to the fulfilment of the SDGs; a project called ALCAEUS (currently integrated in the DEQAR database) that began to work in 2018, collaborating with the Andorra Quality Agency in a project funded by INQAAHE.
