The Aragon Agency for Quality Assurance and Strategic Foresight in Higher Education (ACPUA) carried out a new and innovative international evaluation initiative in 2026 in collaboration with the Chilean agency AcreditAcción, thereby consolidating its commitment to university quality and international cooperation in the field of quality assurance.
This initiative took place within the framework of the collaboration agreement signed between the two agencies for the joint accreditation of university degree programmes in Chile. Thanks to this agreement, ACPUA has participated for the first time in international evaluation processes for degree programmes offered by the Metropolitan Technological University of Chile (UTEM), integrating experts from Aragón into international evaluation teams alongside specialists appointed by the Chilean agency.
During this initial exercise, four UTEM degree programmes were evaluated: Architecture, Library and Information Science, Chartered Accountancy, and Biotechnology Engineering. In total, eight expert evaluators selected from ACPUA’s Pool of Evaluators took part, working in coordination with the teams appointed by AcreditAcción.
The results of the satisfaction survey carried out by ACPUA amongst the Spanish evaluators reflect a very positive assessment of the experience, with an average score of 8.5 out of 10. Amongst the most highlighted aspects were the rigour of the process, the independence of the panels and the opportunity to compare approaches and practices in quality assurance across different university systems.
These conclusions were recently shared at a meta-evaluation meeting attended by representatives from ACPUA and AcreditAcción, at which both institutions agreed on the success of the initiative and expressed their willingness to continue developing future joint initiatives.
